  • Marketing researches

m26 – (Marketing researches). A brief research on wine trends in New York. During a brief trip this January I made a small study on wine trends in New York and here I'm sharing some information following a couple of questions. I made this research collecting catalogs from 16 different wine merchants, selecting the ones that already have Italian wines in their portfolios and operating around the area of Brooklyn, NY. 1. Which are the most distributed Countries in New York by medium-small wine trading companies? Stated that all of them have Italian wines by research criteria (thus, present on 16 catalogs over 16), the other Countries mentioned are following in order of popularity: France (in catalogs of 14 importers over 16), Spain (represented by 10), United States (present in 10 catalogs), Portugal (by 9), Germany (imported by 8 merchants ), Austria (by 6), Chile (by 6), Argentina (by 5), Hungary (by 4), Switzerland (by 4). The above mentioned Countries represent more than 80% of the Countries mentioned in the overall sample. 2. Which are the favourite Italian Regions for importing and selling wine in NY? So far 19 Italian regions are in catalogs (Molise is missing!). Veneto is imported by all 16 merchants, followed by Piedmont (distributed by 15) and Tuscany (by 14). Then Sicily (by 12), Emilia Romagna and Friuli (by 11). Ten (10) distributors are working with Abruzzo, Campania, Marche, Apulia and Trentino Alto Adige). Nine of them are working with Lombardy and Umbria wines. All the above mentioned Regions contribute by more than 80% to all the Regions available in the 16 catalogs observed.
